Course
on the Repair and Overhaul of Ex Electrical Apparatus.
History: In 1984 the AEMT in conjunction with BEAMA
produced the first BEAMA/AEMT “Code of Practice for the Repair and Overhaul
of Ex Electrical Apparatus” with input from the major users of Hazardous Area
Equipment, and the Health and Safety Executive. It was subsequently adopted
with only minor changes as the British and European Standard BS EN 60079 19,
1993, and International standard IEC 79 19, and is recognised as the standard
to which Hazardous Area equipment should be repaired and overhauled. Since
1984 the AEMT has trained delegates from the repair industry, and personnel
from the major Oil companies, Chemical companies, Gas and Water treatment
companies etc. from around the world.
Target Audience: Who should attend?
Electrical and mechanical engineers, technicians, and supervisors, who are
responsible for handling Ex explosion protected apparatus, especially
personnel, who are removing and installing Ex motors, generators, pumps,
gearboxes, etc. or involved in the replacement of spare parts such as
bearings. The first module is also suitable for managers and delegates
involved with Atex, Health and Safety, and risk assessments for apparatus in
Hazardous Zoned areas, or for sales, stores, and administration staff
requiring a knowledge of zoned areas, equipment suitability etc. Course Objectives: The aims of the course are
to raise the level of delegates so that they fully understand hazardous zoned
areas, and how the different standards of equipment are made suitable for the
various areas. The correct procedures and practices to be used for the
overhaul of explosion protected motors, pumps, and other equipment, so that
they will comply with the original certification to which they were
manufactured, and/or comply with the original standards. To ensure that
delegates understand the legal requirements, risk assessments, and health and
safety requirements, when overhauling and maintaining Ex apparatus, such as
motors, generators, pumps, gearboxes etc. Programme and Course Content. Day 1:
Day 2:
The course
programmes rely upon the full involvement of the delegates in discussions and
exercises.
Certification:
All delegates are assessed throughout the course,
with multiple choice questions, and an AEMT certificate issued to all
successful delegates. Course, Length, and Times: The courses are two days starting each day at
8.45am to 4.30 pm. Hands On competency module: The two-day hands on
course is essential for any delegate, who will be repairing Ex equipment or
will be supervising the repair of Hazardous area equipment. This is a two-day hands on module, where delegates
are able to dismantle and reassemble flameproof motors, taking measurements,
recording the details, and comparing with the appropriate certificate, or
standard. This module is an essential part for delegates, actively involved
in repair work, who must now have their ability to repair Ex equipment
assessed for competence. It is also advisable for anyone taking ultimate
responsibility for Ex repairs in the workshop. Hands-on (R) Refresher Course. Technicians
should attend a refresher course every three years to keep their certificate up
to date, and ensure that they are kept up to date with any changes in the
standards, repair procedures, and apparatus. The courses are hands-on with
a reassessment of the delegates
ability, to ensure that delegates have maintained their competency. Refresher
course contains all of the syllabus of the Module 2 Hands on course. The
course also updates delegates on recent changes in standards, or equipment
and answers any problems encountered by delegates in the group discussions.
The hands-on 2R is a combination course held in Delivery Media. The course uses
demonstrations with Power Point, DVD. Where possible there are examples of Ex
d, Ex de, Ex e and Ex n motors and cable glands. Copies of BS IEC 60079 19,
and BS IEC 60079 1 are provided during the course, and questionnaires. There
are also extensive notes for retention by the delegates. Bookings
